Power Selling: NLP for Sales & Marketing.

On the 28th and 29th, we went for a soft skill course in uni. Cost each of us RM140 and it's worth it. Course was conducted by Rizal. Previously, I'd attended 2 of his courses (Take Charge! in 2007 and Team Up! in August 2009). Good facilitator! :)

Rizal.

Rizal involved the participants into every activity in the program. So, everyone gets to do role plays and understand how NLP works.

Day 1

Rizal introduce to us what is NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). You can click here for more in-depth understanding.

Next, he shows us a few presuppositions of NLP. An example is "If One Human Has Done It, That Means It Is Humanly Possible". There are people who support this statement while there are some people against tis statement. Logically, "If You Can Do It, Why Can't I?". It's a matter of choice. You choose whether you want it to be done or not.

Then, he get us into understanding our senses. Human has 5 senses namely Visual, Audio, Kinesthetic, Olfactory and Gastrotory. Most of the time, we're using the former 3 senses. The latter 2 are important for people with job associated with tasting and smelling like chef. It's quite surprising to know that I'm good with all 3 senses. :)

Then comes the interesting part (which I like). How to access eyes. Our eyes tell a lot. We can know stuffs by looking into someone's eyes.

Credit: http://www.golf-hypnotist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/eye-accessing-cues.png

You can know a person uses which type of the 3 senses more dominantly by looking into his/her eyes while communicating with that person. There's this special sense known as audio digital. People whose sense is dominantly audio digital loves communicating with themselves.

Rizal doing a demo on how to access someone's eyes.

Ater that, we learned about Matching & Mirroring. It like copying what the other person's body language, tone, breathing, content, etc you're communicating with. It'll help to build rapport more with the person.

See their body language.

Rizal's body is leaning forward to the front, so do the guy. Matching!

In the above pictures, the guy was unconscious about Rizal's body languages, voice tone and content of conversation which are matched with his.

Another activity we do is Face Reading. Rizal separate the participants into 4 groups with each group has 1 subject (person). Rizal then instruct the subjects to have two types of expression, 1 is thinking about a person they like and another one is thinking about someone they hate. The other people in the group act as observers which requires to observe the object. After analysis, Rizal asked us 10 question in which we need to know the answer from observing the subject. Quite tough exercise.

The final thing we learned that day is State Elicitation. It's about putting your audience into the right frame of mind to learn. Before adjourn, Rizal request us to apply what we learned today into people we'll meet later that night.

Day 2

Rizal asked us to write down what we've learned the previous day. The we had Q & A session in which we can ask questions. Many of us keep raising our hands to ask. Everyone there wants to learn.

After that, Rizal asked us on the experiences we had last night while practicing NLP on other person. Many do practice it.

Quite tired today. However, activities for today involve a lot of interaction with fellow participants. Today is more focus on how to apply NLP in Sales & Marketing. Get to know a couple of people from Marketing course as well as other FBF courses.

One of the activity involves role playing in which 1 person become seller and another 1 become customer. The seller need to convince the customer to buy his/her product. But. seller must bear in mind that NLP is about your customer, not the product. After that, seller and buyer switch role.

Another activity we do is how to handle rejection. For example, someone says "Your product is so expensive!". How to counter this statement? We may choose to use other word to replace the word expensive because a customer would perceive "expensive" negatively. To counter this we may answer the customer, "It worth every penny because it's a quality product." This activity requires a lot of creativity.

There's one interesting activity that we do which is Speed Dating. Fun activity! The guys are required to sell themselves to the girls in 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, the guys will shifted to the next girl and repeat the whole process.

The guys are being divided into 6 groups.

The purpose of this activity is for both guy and gal to integrate NLP into the conversation. Rizal says that it only takes 3 minutes to impress someone. Throughout the activity, the guys do less talking than the gals. It's as if the guys and gals had switches role. I can see nervousness in the guys and they don't know what to talk about. I had "date" with 5 guys, in which they'll ask questions like "What course are you from?". Haha.

At the end of the activity, Rizal ask us (gals) to choose a guy who is outstanding throughout the activity. Our team choose a guy who's not physically appealing but carries out the conversation throughout the "date". Well, it's how you carry yourself that matters. :)

He (as expected by me, confidently) is being selected as "Prince Charming" in his speed dating group. Well, he do has charisma. :)

The day ended by having some group photos. Here's some photos with some of the people...

p/s: I'm sick now. Having 2 big ulcers on each sides of my mouth. Difficult to eat and talk. On the bright side, I may take this opportunity to eat less. :)

An Outing to Ipoh.

Though Ipoh is near to Kampar, he and I seldom went there for various reason. Today, our main motive to Ipoh is to watch 2012. Had been delaying this plan since the release of this movie on 12 November.

Went to the old town bus station at 8.30 a.m. to board bus to Ipoh. Cheap fare. Depart and return ticket cost RM7.50. Reached Ipoh's Medan Kidd at 9.30 a.m. Then, board another local bus to Jusco. Cost: RM1.60 one way.

Ipoh's Medan Kidd.

We board this bus to Jusco.

Reached Jusco at 10.30 a.m. Straight away we went to the cinema after reaching Jusco. Luckily we'd booked the tickets online cause all tickets for 2012 were snapped by people. And there are 8 sessions for 2012 alone today! Wow!

Tickets!

Movie was relatively good. Humour and suspense. Love the effect of the destruction of the world. It's so breath taking. Movie's duration is 2 hours and 45 mins.

After movie, went for lunch at Food & Tea. It serves Hong Kong style dishes. We ordered these.

Pork Chop in Black Pepper Sauce with Rice.

Pork and Century Egg Porridge.

Red Bean, Barley and Milk Dessert.

Mango Pudding with Fruit Cocktail.

Foods were normal. Service was bad. This place get blacklisted already by us.

After lunch, we went separate ways to hunt for our stuff. He's hunting for books and I'm hunting for clothes. New strategy to save time. Hehe. Walked round and round the mall but didn't saw any clothes that I like. Went to PDI, but didn't like their clothes. Seems to me their fabric quality had downgraded. Then, went to Jusco and bought 2 sweat pants. Lovely. RM29 a pair. Good fabric quality plus lovely design. :)

One peachy pink and one lime green.

Met up with him at Popular book fair after 2 hours of shopping. Went to Black Canyon for tea time.

Black Coffee Champed Ice Coffee.

Jamaican Blast.

Black Coffee tasted just like regular Kopi-O. Jamaican Blast on the other hand was delicious. :)

After tea time, went to the book fair again. He managed to buy 2 books at last. Good for him. :)

Headed back to Medan Kidd and change bus to go back to Kampar. Tiring but fun. At least we managed to have a little fun of our own. :)

Need to sleep early to recharge myself for tomorrow's NLP program. Good night! :)

Fine Dining at KTAR.

Went for fine dining at KTAR this afternoon. Previously had went twice there. Good food for RM12 per pax. Cheap for a 3 course meal. :)

Today's menu are...

Though got a few grammar/spelling problem.

Welcome drink.

Appetizer: Tuna Green Garden Salad.

Main course: Chicken Ala King Vole Au Vent served with Red Wine Sauce.

Dessert: Chocolate Cake.

A cup of tea to end the meal.

This was the worst out of the 3 fine dining in KTAR. The Tuna Salad is good, else not so good. Maybe didn't suit my taste bud.

Went for yoga session in the evening. Again, lots of balancing poses today.

After class, went to old town to have claypot chicken rice.

Yummy Claypot Chicken Rice.

We love this particular shop named Chan Siew Heng. This shop's chicken rice tasted the best in Kampar. Lol. As usual, we order 1 large claypot chicken rice with extra chicken, 1 plate of blanched bean sprouts and 1 teapot of jasmine tea. Fulfilling dinner at just RM17 for two. :)

Tomorrow will be going Ipoh for 2012. Finally. Thanks for still having screening of this movie. :)

Have a nice day!

A Wonderful Day...

Wake up this morning with high spirit! Saw a rainbow right out of my window. What a nice view to start a day. :)

Sis was awake and fried nuggets for us as breakfast. :)

Ate a few piece and head off to uni.

This morning I was having the Pengajian Malaysia's quiz. I'd studied for 3 hours for the quiz, which covers Chapter 1-8. Somehow, I know I will manage to do well in this quiz. Lecturer was strict in invigilating this quiz. I sat at the back of the hall, looking calmly at the paper. Somehow, I know how to answer most of them. My intuition was right. :)

After quiz, we planned to go to the market to have curry mee. When we reached there, the stall did not open. Lol. We changed plan. This time, we went to Gong Hin to have some dim sum. We love to have breakfast there cause of the food, environment and service.

The market.

The dim sum.

The stack of dim sum baskets.

While eating, suddenly we remembered about the NLP course for this weekend. Have to go for this course. So, after breakfast, we head into the uni again and had some chat with Ms. Yap. She explained to us about the upcoming talks and courses in which a few we're interested in. Then, we paid the amount needed for the NLP course.

Cute pencils with deco...

Another cute deco on the pencil...

After settling stuff in uni, we headed home and took a rest. Woke up at around 4pm, sis experimented with the Yao Tiao leftover and black pepper sauce.

Yao Tiao with black pepper sauce.

Turn out it's quite tasty, with the exception that it's a bit salty. Laze around at home while waiting to go for yoga class.

This is where I practice yoga.

Went to the yoga center a bit earlier and had some chat with the shop owner. Found out the yoga instructor's name is Mandy and she's the shop owner's Goddaughter. Lady boss was very warm, showing me her photos of her Japan trip back in April. :) Then, went upstairs to do yoga. Today's focus is on balancing. I managed to balanced myself on one leg for 5 minutes. It's an achievement for me as I'm unable to do so last week. Further into the exercise, my palms get sweaty, making it hard for me to have a grip on the mat. So, resort to doing poses on the floor.

He waited for me in front of the shop after class. :) Then, we went to pasar malam together. Walked around for awhile and bought 2 soy drinks. Then, we headed home.

It was tiring today. But it's a day worth to remember. :)

What I did today.

Basically, my daily routine is almost the same, unless there's some special events or things that happen.

Today, woke up at 10am. Went to the dining table and saw these...

Pork Dumplings.

Curled Fried Bread Sticks (Yao Tiao).

Rice Noodle Roll (Chee Cheung Fun).

Glutinous Rice with Sweet Pork.

Curry Chicken.

Guess what? Parents came over early in the morning to deliver these to us. All the way from Teluk Intan! Weee...:D

I had Chee Cheung Fun for breakfast, Curry Chicken and Bread for lunch and dinner. Yum!

In the evening, a package arrived.

Come by Airplane.

The yoga mats!

So well packed.

See how much plastic they use to wrap them?

In the bag.

Taken out from the bag.

My orange mat! (The purple one is LSian's).

Take a nap at 5pm and later we went to the printing shop to print assignment. While going down the flat, we saw this.

Seems like a group of people going to fight! So, we use the alternative road to go to the new town. While in the printing shop, I saw this.

We use this type of glue back in kindergarten. Wah, so nostalgic. Hehe. Still remember using it to paste those pictures into my colouring book.

When we got home, the group disbanded. Maybe they go somewhere else.

Random stuff

This is my Kampar house's instant noodles supply. There's more in the living room as there's no place to put them in. My parents scared we didn't have food to eat, therefore they bring like half a year's food supply for us. Besides instant noodles, got a lot of canned food, dried noodles, Milo, Nescafe etc. I'm so blissful.

This is the kitchen cabinet.

And now I'm studying for tomorrow's Pengajian Malaysia's quiz. Bye people. Have a nice day! :)
